Giving Back
The team at Thredn, like many others, has personally been touched by the devastating effects of mental health in its many forms. We've seen the struggle it is for those who suffer: loved ones, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and everyone in between.
Sobering facts from the National Alliance on Mental Illness note that 43.8 million Americans experience mental illness each year. It cites depression as the leading cause of disability worldwide and finds approximately one in four homeless adults at shelters and in state prisons have a history of mental illness.
The stats for children battling mental illness are just as tragic: one in five youth aged 13-18 live with a mental health condition, 70% of youth in state and local juvenile systems have a mental illness, and suicide is the third leading cause of death in youth ages 10-24.
In our home state of Utah, it is the leading cause of death for youths aged 10 to 17.
And yet at a national level, 60% of adults and 50% of youth, respectively, didn’t receive mental health services last year.
This is an issue close to our hearts, so we wanted to do something to give back.
Our program is simple: we give 5% of our profits to organizations that help educate, raise awareness, and provide mental health services to those in need.
By doing so we hope to help make a difference in the lives directly affected by the daily battle of mental illness.
